Location: The port of Yichang is a major inland river port located at the mouth of Xiling Gorge, one of the Changjiang (Yangtze) Gorges, on the boundary of the middle reaches and upper reaches of the Changjiang River, 1,728km from Shanghai. General overview: The port of Yichang is the biggest port for the transport of phosphorus ore among the inland ports in China. It covers a land area of 750,000m2 and has a shoreline of 125km. The main cargoes handled in the port are coal, petroleum, iron and steel, ore materials, non-metallic ore, chemical fertiliser, agricultural chemical and grain. The port has 6 districts: Three Gorge Dam Region Passenger and Cargo Transportation and Tourist Port District. Yichang Inter-modal (waterway-land) Passenger and Tourist Transportation Port District.
