Location: Thio is located on the E coast of New Caledonia, due N of the capital Noumea. General overview: Thio is a small port with a terminal for the export of nickel ore. An important nickel mining centre is situated on the W bank of Riviere Thio near the mouth, 1.7nm W of the terminal. Load line zone: South Pacific Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Apr 1 to Nov 30, Summer Dec 1 to Mar 31. Max size: Maximum size of vessel handled: LOA 170m; draught 10.8m. Vertical clearance under loader 11m.
