Location: Summerside is located on the S coast of Prince Edward Island in Bedeque Bay with the port entrance through Northumberland Straits. General overview: Summerside harbour includes two breakwaters. The port has 3 independent terminals, the Marine Terminal, Holman's Wharf and Queen's Wharf. These mainly handle fertilizer, root crops, lobsters and gravel. The port has a woodworking factory and a beef packing and cold storage plant. The navigation season is from mid April to the end of Dec with occasional icebreaker support. A Canadian Air Forces air station is located at Summerside, to the N of the town. Traffic figures: Approx 5 vessels visit the port annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 167m, beam 22.9m, draught 7.3m.
