General Description
Location: Rio Grande is situated on the southern tip of Argentina slightly to the N of Cape Horn. It is situated on the left bank and at the mouth of the Rio Grande River.
General overview: At Rio Grande, for the time being, no shipping operations are handled, the port only handles small craft operations.
The principal export is frozen meat products stored in the local cold storage plant, wool is also exported.
Authorities attending tankers loading at San Sebastian Bay and the Hidra oil field have their stations in the port. It is convenient for the reason that it is the nearest city of any size to the loading terminals.
Entry and departure should be made during the last hour of rising tide.

Development Plans:
The construction of a quay with length 160m, 20m width and 2 dolphins for mooring. The quay will be able to accommodate vessels up to 40,000DWT with a draft around 10.7 m.
