Location: Port Giles is situated on the E side of the Yorke Peninsula, 217km by road from Adelaide. General overview: Port Giles was established to export grain and seeds from the lower section of the peninsula. Recent dredging has increased the grain berth depth to 14.7m LAT. Principal commodities handled: Barley and wheat. Traffic figures: The port handles approx 327,000t of cargo with 8 vessels visiting the port annually. Load line zone: Summer. Max size: LOA 230m, beam 32.2m, max draught 13.5m, dependent on available tides at any given time. Conditions may be suitable for longer vessels at Port Manager's discretion.
