General Description
Location: Oulu is situated at the mouth of the River Oulujoki, NE of the Gulf of Bothnia
General overview: The port covers an area of 180ha and consists of four harbour areas, Oritkari, Nuottasaari, Toppila and Vihreasaari. The port has a Free Trade Zone Area of 18,000m², which offers economic advantages to importers and exporters. Open all year round, the port uses icebreakers to keep approach channels free between mid Dec and end Mar/early Apr.

- Exports: Mainly Paper, Cellulose, Timber and Chemicals
- Imports: Coal, Clay, Glauber Salt, Fuel Oil, Guano, Chemicals and Raw Materials
- Ro/Ros and Container traffic also handled.
Handling Equipment:
- 2 Cranes (50t) on Oritkari's Main Pier.
Traffic figures: Approx. 550 vessels, 3,600,000t of cargo and 30,220TEU handled annually.
Load line zone:
- Summer Zone for ships over 100m in length
- Winter Seasonal Area for ships of 100m or less in length
- Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31
- Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31.
In case the vessel obtains better ice class, fairway due will be lower accordingly.
In case vessel will arrive directly from another Finnish port, fairway due will not be collected at Oulu anymore
Non-tidal port, congestion very rare.
