General Description
Location: The port facilities at Nikiski are located on the E side of Cook Inlet, approx 13km NW of the town of Kenai, on the Kenai Peninsula in Alaska.
General overview: The facilities consist of a wharf and three 'T' jetties. Each jetty is privately owned and operated. The port is used for the receipt of crude oil, materials and equipment for offshore oil wells. Petroleum products, LNG, liquid ammonia and urea are also handled. Ice floes can become a severe problem at berths during Jan and Feb.
Traffic figures: Approx 180 vessels with a total of 8,800,000DWT handled annually. Load line zone: North Pacific Winter Seasonal Zone, Winter Oct 16 to Apr 15, Summer Apr 16 to Oct 15.
