General Description
Location: Nice is situated on the SE coast of France, 90 n.m. east of Marseilles, NE of the Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels) between the castle hill and the Boron Mount which form a rocky promontory at the Nice Cape towards the south.
General overview: The port of Nice is protected by a breakwater to the S which is an extension of the Admiral Infernet Quay; consisting of the Commercial, Admiral and Lympia Basins, the latter is used by yachts. Other berths handle ferries, general and dry bulks, including cereals. The port is also an important yacht resort, with the associated bunkering and repair facilities. The basins reserved for recreational boats: Tour Rouje, Lympia basin and part of the Quai d’Entrecasteaux.
Bulk facilities: Specialised equipment for the discharge of bulk equipment (pyrite, clinker, mineral, etc). Handling rates for cement 1,400 tons per day and for bulk ore 1,200 tons per day with two hoppers, two cranes and two gangs..
Other facilities: Five platforms for Ro-Ro traffic. Height of quays 1.80m
Traffic figures: Approx 345,000t of cargo, 1,080,000 passengers and 1,400 vessels are handled annually.
Load line zone: Summer.
Max size: LOA 215m, or more by arrangement, beam 30m, draught 7.8m, 12,000DWT.
