General Description

Location: Natal is situated on the right bank of the Portengi River, 3km from the beginning of the estuary. It is SA’s closest port to the European continent. General overview: The port lays on a 540m Pier with 3 berths. Adjacent to the public port there is Dunas Oil Pier, privately owned by Petrobras. It serves the transactions of liquid bulk, 50 m N of the quay. The main exports are fruits such as mango, watermelon, melon, papaya, and grapes also sugar, shrimps and frozen fish. The imports are most the times wheat, crates and equipment. The Offshore drilling for petroleum is also served. Anchorages: - No.1 = For vessels arriving from other ports and await for pilot or berthing - No.2 = For vessels in quarantine - No.3 = For recreational and sport ships. Pilotage: - Mandatory for vessels like oil and propane tankers, vessels carrying explosive cargo, foreign ships and Brazilian vessels greater than 2000 GT. - Optional for foreign vessels less that 2000 GT with Brazilian seafarers of equal or greater category that cabotage master.
