General Description
Location: The Port of Lahad Datu is situated in the Dent Peninsula on Tawau Division of Sabah, on the N shore of Darvel Bay in E Sabah.
General overview: The Port of Lahad Datu is engaged in the export of copra, palm oil, cocoa, and timber, and has facilities for handling containers and tankers.
The private operators maintain the large bulk palm oil storage facilities in the port's adjacent area. The port is marked for major development of palm oil and the biomass/fertilizer trade from palm tree waste.
With the up and coming Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) Lahad Datu, Lahad Datu Port is poised to be a catalyst in the booming palm oil industry as well as oleo chemical and bio diesel industry in East Malaysia.
Lahad Datu is also set to be the Central Hub for the import of Bulk Fertilizer for the East Coast.
