Location: Yampi Sound, an inlet of the Indian Ocean, is located on the N coast of W Australia, between King Sound and Collier Bay. General overview: A private port, owned by Mount Gibson Iron, is a well sheltered, deep water port, which offers good all weather anchorages. The port incorporates Koolan Island, from where bulk hematite was anticipated to commence shipping from June 2009. Traffic figures: Approx 3-4,000,000t of cargo handled annually.
