General Description
Location: The Port of Kirkenes is situated on the northeast coast of Norway, on the Varangerfjord. Located 1,937km north of Trondheim and just 240km from Murmansk.
General overview: The Kirkenes port is strategically located near the Russian/Norwegian border and provides excellent deep-water quays and a sheltered location. It handles various commodities, including iron ore, fish, passengers, and general cargo.
Additionally, the port offers offshore oil and gas supply services. Despite the harsh winter, the port remains open with the help of an icebreaker and caters to coastal liner services, Russian trawler fleets, oil tankers, and general cargo transportation. The port also features the A/S Sydvaranger's previous iron ore production facilities, which can still be utilised for handling bulk cargoes.
