General Description
Location: The port of Kalamata is located at the NE head of Messiniakos Kolpos, in southern Greece.
General overview: Kalamata consists of terminal and transfer facilities for loading and discharging waterborne cargo or passengers, usually located in a harbor. A mole runs alongside the shore for 300m, ending in a breakwater, 920m in length which is then surrounded by another breakwater, 400m in length. There is a CBM offshore for the discharge of gasolines. Total length of piers: 1,200 m, covered storage area is 2,000 sq.m., open storage areas is 22,000 sq.m.
Traffic figures: Approx 80,000t of cargo handled annually.
Load line zone: Summer.
Max size: Vessels up to 200 m. LOA, 50 m. beam and 9 m. draft may enter harbour, for berthing alongside.
