General Description
Location: Havre St Pierre is located on the Lower North Shore of the St Lawrence River, approx 200km downstream from Sept Iles. General overview: The harbour serves the Lower North Shore and is navigational all year. It is a fishing centre and a loading port for the Quebec Iron and Titanium Corporation. The main wharf helps prevent silting in the Western harbour and provides protection for the fisheries and ocean boat ramp. A wharf, owned by Quebec Fer, has facilities for large vessels. Icebreaker assistance is sometimes required during spring. Generally the port is accessible from Apr-Jan. Traffic figures: Approx 40 vessels and 5,000t of salt is handled annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Winter Seasonal Zone II, Winter Nov 1 to Mar 31, Summer Apr 1 to Oct 31. Max size: Max draught 9.5m.
