General Description
Location: The port of Guiria is located 45nm W of Port of Spain (Trinidad) and 300nm NW of Guyana. General overview: Formerly an oil terminal, the port is now primarily a fishing port and a pilot boarding station for Gulf of Paria pilots. Exports of small quantities of food and consumables pass through the port. The port, which is well protected from NE and E winds, has an inner harbour with a 1,247m main breakwater and a 817m secondary breakwater protecting the 35ha water area. The harbour bottom is mostly sand and silt with depths of 8.0m. A dredging programme is undertaken at approx 5 year intervals. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Draught 5.7m.
