General Description
Location: Georgetown is situated on the S side of Clarence Bay to the NW of Ascension Island in the S Atlantic, which is approx 1,300km NW of Saint Helena Island and covers an area of 88km². General overview: The port of Georgetown has the only recognised landing area on the island, where lighters are discharged and passengers embark and disembark. Ocean going vessels anchor in the roadstead. Passenger vessels have preference for the anchorage and cargo facilities. English Bay, 2.3nm NE of Georgetown, may be used by tankers. Traffic figures: Approx 10,000t of cargo is handled annually. Load line zone: Tropical. Max size: Draught 9.7m; 28,705GT. Max offshore draught 12.2m.
