General Description
Location: Cuddalore, the principal port and capital of South Arcot District in Tamilnadu State, lies on a backwater formed by the confluent estuaries of Gadilam River and Uppanar River. General overview: Cuddalore is an anchorage worked by lighters which are accommodated at four wharves. It is closed during the monsoon period. The port handles fertiliser, rice, wheat, rice bran, fertiliser, onions and general cargo. Traffic figures: Approx 25,000t of cargo handled annually. Load line zone: Bay of Bengal Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Dec 1 to Apr 30, Summer May 1 to Nov 30.
