General Description
Location: St Thomas Island is located in the US Virgin Islands which lie at the eastern end of the Greater Antilles and the northern end of the Lesser Antilles, 56km E of Puerto Rico. General overview: Charlotte Amalie Harbour is one of the finest in the West Indies. Good anchorage is available in the Examination area in 14.6m of water with a sandy bottom; no mooring buoys available. The Crown Bay and Red Hook Terminals are also included in the Berths section. Traffic figures: Approx 2,000 vessels call annually. Load line zone: North Atlantic Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Nov 1 to Jul 15, Summer Jul 16 to Oct 31. Max size: LOA 153.9m, max draught alongside 9.7m. Largest vessel handled: 42,000DWT, draught 9.1m.
