General Description
Location: The port of Mahon is situated at the head of an inlet 2.6nm in length, on the SE coast of Menorca, one of the Balearic Islands.
General overview: The port has regular passenger and freight services to Palma and Barcelona. The E and W docks handle passenger traffic and cruise vessels. Commercial traffic is now handled in the Cos Nou Dock which has 3 Ro-Ro ramps. Mahon is a large harbor in a 2-mile deep fjord. Mahón has one of the longest natural harbours in the world: 5 kilometres (3 miles) long and up to 900 metres (3,000 feet) wide. It is sheltered from all weather.
Most (all large) cruise ships to Menorca Island dock at Mahon - port town on the southeastern coast. Smaller (luxury) cruise ships may dock at Ciutadella de Menorca - port town on the island's western coast.
