General Description
Location: The port of Suzhou is located on the Grand Canal. It has the Changjiang (Yangtze) River to the N and the Tai Lake to the S. General overview: The Port of Suzhou Administration includes the ports of Taicang, Changshu and Zhangjiagang (see each under separate entry). Suzhou port has a natural shoreline of 17km with a land area of 230,000m² and a water area of 13,000m². There are 7 harbour areas, as follows: Baiyangwan: A transhipment area, located NW of Suzhou, on the Baiyangwan section of the Grand Canal. Loumen: NE of Suzhou, on Loumen section of the around-city river. Chengwan: SE of Suzhou, on the original Grand Canal site. Fengmen: E of Suzhou, on the eastern section of the around-city river. Qimen: N of Suzhou, on the original Hetang section. Fengqiao: W of Suzhou, on the Grand Canal, Suzhou section. Shuangqiao: SW of Suzhou, on the Grand Canal, Xujiang section. There are passenger transport areas of 1,960m². The main cargoes handled in the port are coal, ore material, non-metallic ore, iron, steel and cement. Traffic figures: Approx 183,300,000t of cargo and 1,895,500TEU handled annually. Max size: 250DWT.
