General Description
Location: Situated at the mouth of the Mobile River, Mobile is approx 23nm from the Gulf entrance to Mobile Bay. General overview: Mobile is the main Customs Port of Entry for the area and the Alabama State Docks Department is controlled from here. Imports: Containers with coal, aluminium, iron, steel, copper, lumber, woodpulp, plywood, fence posts, veneers, rolled and cut paper, cement and chemicals. Exports: Containers with coal, lumber, plywood, woodpulp, OSB, laminate, flooring, rolled and cut paper, iron, steel, frozen poultry, soya beans and chemicals. Seven of the facilities have grain storage elevators and prime industrial sites are available at most of the locations. Traffic figures: Approximately 25,100,000t of cargo, 170,000TEU and 2,250 vessels handled annually.
